Dietitian Supervision
A supportive space to help you learn, reflect, breathe and thrive
In A Nutshell
Supervision provides a conditional space to explore and deepen your understanding of both your professional self and the clients you support.
HOW I’VE BENEFITED
Why should I get supervision?
Benefits of supervision
Supervision is a cornerstone of effective and sustainable practice. Speaking as both a seasoned dietitian and as a dietitian supervisor, I’ve personally benefitted from regular Supervision throughout much of my career.
Ongoing supervision is invaluable, not only for enhancing our professional growth but also for:
Improving the quality of care we provide to our clients
Protecting ourselves from the risks of burnout and poor practice
Safeguarding the well-being of those we support
“Supervision is becoming students of our own experience… sitting at the feet of our work.” Zachary, 2002
HOW SUPERVISION HELPS
The Benefits
Supervision can provide you with:
Clarity and direction as well as professional connection
Enhance confidence in clinical skills and practice
An easy way to keep up-to-date with best evidence based practice
Identification of strengths in our practice and those individual tendencies that may be our blind spots ( eg avoiding raising issues, going over time)
Critical help in managing ethical issues
Enhancement of our reflective practice to better understand our work
WHO SUPERVISION HELPS
Who Can Benefit?
Supervision is beneficial for dietitian’s at any stage of their career, regardless of experience. It can be especially valuable for:
Early-career dietitians.
Those new to eating disorders, nutritional counselling, or private practice.
Experienced dietitians seeking to deepen their knowledge, reflect on their practice, navigate challenging cases, or find a safe to process work-related stress and emotions.
If you are looking to develop or enhance a trauma informed, non-diet and weight-inclusive practice, supervision offers a caring, supportive, instructive and reflective relationship to foster your professional growth.

Supervision of Supervisors
It has been a privilege to learn from my supervisors and to have their support over many years, just as it is a privilege to supervise others, who in turn teach me so much.
Supervisors are also required to engage in their own reflective practice, to take responsibility for addressing any ruptures or difficulties within the supervisory relationship.
If you currently provide supervision or a mentor relationship for others you may be ready to engage in your own ‘supervision of supervision’ to ensure ongoing professional development and best practice in this important role. Please enquire if you would like to discuss further.
You can find more information about supervision at Dietitian Supervision Supporting Resources.
